MI Choice pays for nursing-home-level care services for people 65+ (or disabled adults) who want to live at home, in an assisted living, a home for the aged, or an adult foster care home. It pays for care, not rent or meals. You apply through the MI Choice waiver agency for your county, which is often your Area Agency on Aging.
Waitlist: Sometimes. MI Choice has a limited number of slots. When a local waiver agency is full, applicants go on a waiting list. People moving out of a nursing home usually get priority.
If your parent has Medicaid and needs help with at least one daily activity like bathing, dressing or toileting, Home Help pays a caregiver to help at home. Adult children and other relatives can be the paid caregiver. Spouses cannot. Apply through your county MDHHS office.
Waitlist: Home Help is a regular Medicaid benefit, not a capped waiver.

Yes. Through Medicaid Home Help, an adult child or other relative can be paid to give personal care, but a spouse cannot. MI Choice also has a self-determination option that lets participants hire people they know; ask the waiver agency about limits on spouses and legal guardians.
